EAGE Geo-Quiz

Sunday, 19 February 2023, 14:00-15:00

During MEOS GEO 2023, EAGE will conduct its Geo Quiz for all students in attendance and engage in the Student & YP program.
EAGE is a truly multidisciplinary association and this is emphasized in the EAGE Geo Quiz as well. The quiz consists of several rounds with questions related to different fields in the geoscience and engineering industry. Petroleum geoscience, geology, geophysics, petrophysics and drilling are just a few of the fields that students may have to deal with during the competition. The level of the questions differs and will get more difficult along the way. The best way to compete in this quiz is with a multidisciplinary team of students.

  • Every team consists of 2-3 students
  • Each team will receive one remote control
  • Once a team has pressed ‘a’, ‘b’, ‘c’, or ‘d’ the answer cannot be changed anymore
  • The questions will be shown on a screen
  • Teams will answer the questions under time pressure

In addition to bragging rights, a great prize awaits the winning team.

Start now to build your team and once confirmed please email us at [email protected] to be registered to take part. You will have the opportunity to register on site for those last minute teams. Please visit the EAGE booth 7.G30 before 12pm on Sunday 19th. Remember the quiz takes place that day at 2pm.

Financial Awareness Session

Monday, 20 February 2023, 15:00-16:00

This workshop offers a wide range of financial terms and concepts that are essential in a real-world context. The topics would be simplified with analogies from personal life for engineering and geoscience young professionals who have not had extensive exposure to finance as part of their formal education. We then aim to upscale these concepts to how a business works and eventually how the global financial market influences our day to day life. This session will provide attendees with the fundamental building blocks to enable them to dive deeper and ask the right questions related to financial data in their organization or projects.

The session would conclude with the impact of finance on energy transition and the future of oil and gas. The aim is that young professionals gain a strong grasp of the language associated with finance, grounded within the context of everyday decisions. The understanding of risk and return would benefit the attendees in their personal as well as professional life and help them use “the numbers” to their best advantage and make more informed decisions.

Offsite Field Trip

Tuesday, 21 February 2023, 11:00

Awali Field was the first oil field to be discovered in the Arabian Peninsula, back in 1932. Located 30 km south of Manama, the field continues to be the economic powerhouse of Bahrain. The half-day field visit will cover outcrops around Jebel Al Dhukhan, the surface expression of the Bahrain anticline, where Eocene Dammam and Rus formations are exposed. These are a part of the conspicuous carbonate rimrock in the center of the island that are surrounded by a ring of younger Miocene and Quaternary formations on the periphery. The visit will give participants an overview of the facies architecture, diagenetic processes and structural features present on the field. It will also cover the present day oil and gas development facilities in Awali Field.
